The final category is known as the articulating or universal mount. These mounts offer the greatest range of motion and are usually the most expensive.
The typical articulating mount allows the screen to pan left and right, tilt up and down and move away from the wall by means of a cantilevered arm assembly (usually referred to as 'extension'). Extension combined with the pan and swivel axis allows the screen to be positioned at 90 degrees to the wall. For modern, open plan homes, this single capability is usually the main reason to select an articulating mount.
